After grabbing his belongings, Ghost remade his bed on the floor and laid down, pulling his mask off once more. It was quiet in the house, the only noise came from the wildlife outside. An owl hooted outside the window of Ghost's room and it was oddly soothing. Before he was able to fall asleep, he heard a creak from the floorboards. His eyes shot open and sat up.

You were so bored. You glided up and down the stairs countlessly to keep yourself busy but you did that day after day and it was mind numbing. You couldn't leave and you were alone. You stood around, humming to yourself most of the day and night, even talking to yourself, but you were getting annoyed by your own voice. And the beating you heard constantly in your ear was maddening. No matter what you did, it never went away. No one ever told you what the rhythm was but they said it was important to find the source of it.

You were laying on the banister of the stairs when you heard voices outside. "Someone's here," you said to no one. You hurried down the stairs and looked out the big window in the living room. Standing outside were four figures in front of the house. "Men? Great... Probably going to wreck the place more." you grumbled. You went to your usual hiding spot, the upstairs mirror that stood in the master bedroom. Before you could reach it, a loud noise echoed through the house, making you flinch. "You're a fuckin' ghost, they can't hurt you." you scolded yourself.

After a while, you came out of the mirror to silence. But to your surprise, there were two bodies on the floor. One moved, turning to lay on his side, so you knew they weren't dead. You tilted your head at them curiously. "Why would anyone sleep here?" you asked. The one that didn't move sat up quickly, "Did you hear that?" he asked in a panic. The other sat up, too. "No, what?" He sounded scared as well. "You two have weapons of war and get frightened over a voice?" You laughed. Both men shot to their feet, snatching their things from the floor and bolted out of the room. You laughed to yourself when you heard arguing, somewhat annoyed you'd have to 'sleep' in the mirror because it was unsettling, even as a ghost. Walking back to the mirror you heard the door slam behind you and turned. A man with a mask threw his stuff to the floor and pulled the mask off. He was incredibly handsome. "Human feelings?" you joked as you brushed your hands over your fluttering stomach. He didn't respond like the others did. "Must not be able to hear me." you shrugged and moved towards the mirror again. The floor creaked and you heard the man shift behind you and looked at him once more.

"The fuck?" Ghost said as he could've sworn he saw something move near the mirror that hung on the wall. Convinced his eyes were playing tricks on him, he went to lay back down.

You saw as he glanced around where you stood, "Can you see me?" you asked aloud. He didn't answer, of course. You stepped towards him and kneeled in front of him. His eyes didn't settle on you. He had beautiful eyes, hard yet enthralling features despite his scar through his eyebrow. "Kind of wish I was human again."

Ghost shook his head, "Must've been a mouse." he told himself and laid back down. Pulling the blanket to cover half his face, he shut his eyes once more, hoping to be able to finally fall asleep.

You sat on your calves never to him as he laid there. Glancing over him, you saw the name "Riley" on his chest. "I love that name." you said to yourself, kind of hoping he'd heard you. Admiring him for a moment longer, you pulled the blanket off his face. He sat up, looking disturbed. It kind of made you laugh and you rested your hand on his arm.

On the brink of sleep, Ghost felt his blanket move and his eyes snapped open once more. "Hello" he heard a distorted woman's laugh in his ear. He was still convinced his mind was too tired to function properly. "Riley is a nice name." he heard the voice say. He felt his skin turn to ice.

"It's my last name." he said, not knowing what else to do. There wasn't any training that could've taught him what to do in this situation. Maybe see a therapist or get medication, though.

"What's your first name?"

"Simon." Ghost had no idea why he was answering the voice in his head.

"How did you get your scar?"

"Knife fight." Ghost said simply.

"You're still handsome with it."

"Th- uh, thanks?" he said confused.

"How long will you be here?"

"Just tonight. We leave tomorrow." he felt stupid for talking to no one around him.

"Will you return?"

"No, probably not."

Ghost squeezed his eyes shut, taking a few deep breaths to calm himself down. The voice in his head was familiar yet he knew he had never heard it before now. "Who are you?" he asked.

"Y/N," it had been so long since you said your name. You had almost forgotten it.

"Y/N," he repeated out loud. The way he said it sounded like a melody. "Why does it feel like we've met before?" he asked. "I don't know. I've been gone a long time." He nodded.

"Can I lay with you?." you asked suddenly, unsure why. "What?" he asked. You repeated the question once more. "Sure, uh, I guess that's alright. Seem harmless." he said as he hesitantly laid back down. "Thank you,"

He laid down, kind of stiff, and put a hand behind his head. You laid next to him, resting your head against his chest. Then the beating in his chest made you feel warmth encase you. "That beating," you whispered.

You felt your body get warmer. You'd been so cold for so long you almost didn't recognize the feeling. Then you felt a tingling sensation consume your body. A subtle ache began to pound in your chest. You clutched your chest, almost like you were struggling to breathe. It was so foreign to you. But air rushed down your throat and you felt your lungs expand. You felt the warmth of Simon's body against your own and you sat up. What was once a foggy picture of your feet was now clear. Your clothes weren't opaque anymore, now vibrant with color and threading that was quite intricate. You ran your hands over your arms, now solid and warm. You stared at your hands as they filled with color instead of nothingness.

Ghost sat up, feeling a range of emotions from fear to amazement. A woman was appearing next to him and he didn't know if he should run or stay put. She looked at him with a panic in her eyes, but those eyes pierced his soul, ripping the breath from his lungs. He knew those eyes anywhere. Any timeline, those eyes were his favorite color.

"What's happening?" You asked in a staggered breath. Ghost moved to kneel next to you, "I-I don't know," he shook his head, trying to figure out if you were real or a hallucination. "Sim-" she stopped as she became a solid form. "Simon," she said with relief in her voice.

Memories that belonged to someone else flashed through his mind, but he was in each one with the woman he sat next to. t was another version of him. "Y/N," he said with a trembling tone. "It's been so long," he held a shaky out to your face, scared to touch you. "Too long, my love." tears fell from your eyes. "Where have you been?" he asked as he hugged you tightly. You sat on his lap, hugging his neck tightly. "Waiting for you," you cried. "I'm here, sweetheart." he pulled you away, caressing your face gently. "You're as beautiful as the last time I saw you." he exhaled a sharp breath with tears in his eyes.
